What’s Over Your Next Horizon?

Your child has worked hard and found success in and out of academics. There is more ahead for them to explore and learn, and you want them to be in a school that suits them well and helps them find success. That is why writing skills are so important, not just for an admissions essay but all the other writing that is required for learning. Strong writing opens doors for academic success, new schools, exploration of ideas, and self-expression.

Writing coaching at Due North Coaching has helped students in admission to colleges such as Princeton University, Caltech, Syracuse University and University of Michigan. This support has also helped New York City students be admitted into competitive high schools such as Beacon High School, Bard Early College, and Xavier.

If your child is ready to take the next step to a new and challenging school and a new level of writing success, writing coaching may be right for them. Everyone is a writer, and I know the tools that can help students improve and find success. I have the patience and understanding to be a trusted adult for your child and your family, and I have the experience needed to help students write compelling essays that support their application to competitive colleges and high schools. Let’s work together.

Hi. I’m Cristin.

I am a writing coach, life coach, and parent.

I have been coaching students as they write application essays, and teaching students in English Language classrooms for over a decade. I know what it is like to persevere through writing challenges as a working writer and writing student, and I know how to help students write so that they present their ideas clearly so that schools know they are the kind of applicant they want attending their school.

I have helped students write admissions essays and statements who have been admitted to colleges including Princeton University, Caltech, Syracuse University, and University of Michigan. I have also helped students through the admission process at private and public New York City high schools such as Bard Early College, Beacon High School and other Consortium schools, and Xavier.

I believe in meeting people where they are and sharing the tools and resources I have acquired to help students and parents continue their own journeys as writers and people.

Writing coaching is a collaborative process. I am an expert in writing and teaching, but your child is an expert in who they are and who they are as a person and a writer. In writing coaching, student and coach show up with full respect for all the skills being offered by each of us, and use that combination to work through a process together that produces a compelling writing piece while students acquire skills for future projects.

Because writing coaching means being open to all the things a student has to offer, it is an opportunity for writers to work toward finding their own voice. Tutoring often means a writer is being taught to echo the voice of the tutor, or have the writer write in the style of their tutor. In writing coaching, the process is meant to help the student become a better version of the writer they already are.

Tutoring is about delivering information. Coaching is about sharing information and understanding from both sides. It is more effective because it teaches students to OWN the process, their work, and their ideas. It is about thinking not just about how to write a good essay, but how to be a better writer in the future.

What Families Say About Me

"I highly recommend Cristin for tutoring and academic support for your kids!

My 14-year old daughter worked with Cristin this year on her High School essays and she both loved working with Cristin who was so personable and easy to work with, and Cristin was so helpful in helping my daughter find her voice. She worked with her to guide her through writing four High School essays in a month. Best of all she completed the process feeling more confident and excited about her writing and high school next year!"

“Thank you!

Writing is not an easy task for our daughter. When faced with writing high school essays, and the high stakes involved, we realized that we needed someone to help her take her thoughts and put them into a concise and organized document. You managed to do that with her with ease and she actually was willing to take the help from you. In the past, she has refused tutoring or outside help. Can’t thank you enough!!!!!”

"I would highly recommend Cristin!

Cristin helped my child write their high school application essay. Cristin was thoughtful and supportive in her tutoring. She was incredibly communicative with me, available to my child for email or text support between sessions. Cristin’s method of using Google docs with feedback and clear expectations was helpful for everyone involved."
